In this short video I examine a medium size pair of Meissen Nodding Chinaman also known as Pagoda figures. Each of these articulated figures work via a mechanical mechanism set inside the figure. A lead weight is attached to the hands, the head and the tongue. This pair are the middle size of three sizes measuring 15cm high. Modelled by the Leuteritz workshop and bear a blue crossed swords mark towards the read bottom rim circa 1880. As is the case of items made at this time both exceptional modelling and painting is seen without exception.
